  • International relief agency Muslim Aid constructs permanent housing for tsunami survivors whose homes were destroyed in the Kampung Jawa neighbourhood of Banda Aceh, Oct, 2005. Muslim Aid, with funding from Oxfam, builds the houses to traditional design, encouraging residents to personalise their new homes according to their needs. Some households have been reduced by tsunami fatalities; others have taken in other homeless relatives, increasing the occupancy as the family consolidate their support. The tsunami wave of Dec 26, 2004 left 131,000 dead, 37,000 missing, and over 500,000 displaced in Aceh.
